A Giftable Lipstick Set

I’ve been in a rut. About a year and a half ago, I picked up a Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita and have never looked back. I bought about five of them to keep in every place I’m needing to freshen up, and it became a bit of an obsession. How could it not? It’s the perfect lipstick - it stays on almost all day, I love the color, and it’s matte!

But guys - 2018 is around the corner, and it’s time to start anew. In the past month or so, I’ve been a little bit lipstick crazy and have been trying several different products. Kat Von D aside, I’ve really grown to love Bite lipsticks - especially one in Pepper that I’ve been pulling out lately.

Yesterday, I walked into Sephora and promised myself that I was ONLY getting foundation. I grabbed what I needed, got in line, and there it was: The Perfect Bite Amuse Bouche Lipstick Set just sitting on those shelves by the registers begging to be put in someone’s Christmas stocking (in my case - mine). It was so cute and held four of their most popular shades in a perfect size. It came in a red tin, and it was only $20. Sold.

I’m pretty pleased with myself for buying this. I really like the variety of shades, and there's bound to be at least two that work on whoever you're gifting this to. The formulation is great, and it goes on really smoothly. It does require a few touch ups throughout the day, though, or it starts to look a bit dry.

From bottom to top (picture above), the shades are Honeycomb, Sugarcane, Rhubarb, and Cayenne. I’ll be the first to say that Honeycomb is not my shade, and several reviews say that this is the second year it’s been included in the set. The Sugarcane has been a bit of a stretch outside of my usual color house, and I’m having some fun with it. Rhubarb (the plum color), is totally my jam, and I will definitely be buying a full size tube (or four).

My goal for 2018 is to try the Cayenne and wear it OUT OF THE HOUSE. I’ve never worn a red lipstick, and it seems like a really bold move, but it’s been a year of change. I have a new degree, a new job within my department, I’m getting married, and we’re and planning for what’s next. So maybe it’s the time to give the bold move a try.

So. Final say: I like it, and I think you will too. Whether it’s for yourself or as a last-minute stocking stuffer, the $20 price seems to make this fun buy a low-risk investment. Pick it up at your friendly neighborhood Sephora. It’s a holiday edition, so it likely won’t be out much longer! Or - skip the set and just go straight to the full sizes of the colors you know you'll love!

What bold makeup moves are you going to make in 2018? Will you be joining me in my quest for red lips? Or maybe you’ll just shelve the lipstick you’ve been wearing for a year and a half and give something new a go?
