I follow a lot of style bloggers who have been posting the past couple of weeks about their time at New York Fashion week. I love seeing all of the glamorous things they’re doing, their gorgeous outfits, and their fabulous friends. It’s a life I probably will never be a part of.
Honestly, though, I don’t really take much stock in NYFW outside of it being a really cool art exhibit. It doesn’t translate well to style around here, and regardless of how big your budget is, the bulk of people would roll their eyes at any high-fashion, big label names on your clothes. We tone it down and keep it simple. I do, however, sometimes like to scroll through the recaps. One described how black, all-leather outfits would be very in this fall, pulling inspiration from the Matrix. First, I laughed at that hilarious description. Second, I got super pumped because I love black leather and now the style gods were giving me permission to go nuts.
I have a Pinterest board devoted to work style, and I’ve had a pin on there with a leather skirt for ages. One day while browsing my favorite website, Thredup, I found exactly what I had been searching for for so long: the PERFECT black leather skirt. I blacked out, and two weeks later it was in my possession. I will be wearing it all fall, all winter, and for as long as I can get away with it in the spring. Today, I’m sharing my outfit inspiration with you and showing how you can get the look at two different price points.
I Like to Thrift.
Mine was entirely thrifted from Thredup for a total cost of $85 (shoes included). The skirt is Michael Kors, the top is Old Navy, and the shoes are Bernardo. Sharing from thrift sites is a bit of a disaster since there only tends to be one of everything, so I’ve hunted down a few similar options for your convenience. If you want to try to track down some thrift finds from Thredup, though, go forth and conquer! The above link will get you $10 off your first order (and kick back $10 for the next outfit on the blog).
First, We Save.
- Top: Express for $30.99 (It’s super on-sale now, so go, go, go!).
- Skirt: ChicWish for $44.93 (Be careful to read the sizing charts! ChicWish can get tricky)
- Shoes: Abella from DSW at $39.99
- Necklace: Charming Charlies for $10.80 (On-sale now!)
Total cost: $127
And the best part? All of these pieces are insanely versatile and will go with everything! You’ll be able to mix and match with jeans, different tops, and you can wear those shoes anywhere. Maybe not to do yard work or whatever, but if that’s your jam, I’m not here to tell you no.
Next, We Splurge.
- Top: Banana Republic for $74.
- Skirt: J.Crew for $120.
- Shoes: Aerosoles from Younkers for $79.
- Necklace: Kate Spade for $174.
Total cost: $447
What Would I Recommend?
Like the look? All are great choices (I wouldn’t share them otherwise), but I would stick with the skirt and shoes from the splurge side and go with the necklace and top from the save side. For me, a black leather skirt is a staple piece that I’m going to all but sleep in. The price tag is worth it. I also don’t believe in skimping on shoes because I’m a gargantuan baby when my feet hurt. Aerosoles are the BEST shoes in the entire world for comfort.
There. A fall look at two very different price points. What are your go-to fall staples this season! Let me know!
