If you’ve immersed yourself into the blogging community, no matter how new you are, you’ve heard of the Liebster Award. Much to my surprise, I received a message to my Facebook page this past week notifying me that someone would like to nominate me. It definitely came as a shock because I was pretty sure that no one read this blog except, like, my parents and some obligation-reads from friends. Okay, that’s not true. You guys are all awesome, and I appreciate your support and loyalty each week. But I didn’t think anyone from the blogging community was paying much notice to what I was doing.
As part of this process, I’m filling out some questions that every nominee answers, as well as some that my nominator posed, and then sharing the Liebster-love with a few other new bloggers. Read on for more!
What is the Liebster Award?
Started in 2011 and still going strong, this award is one that recognizes bloggers with fewer than 200 followers. While this award does not have a “winner”, it is a fantastic way to showcase bloggers and give extra support and love.
Thanks, Danielle, Nominator-Extraordinaire!
Danielle of This Mayberry Life nominated me for the Liebster Award. Go check out her site - I’ll wait. She covers all of the topics I’m always needing advice on - health and fitness, money, and assorted other cool things you should know about like YouTube channels, bullet journals, and more. She also covers parenting, and her kiddos are super cute. Even better, she’s a Nebraska girl who totally gets small town life, which is aces in my book. You should definitely subscribe to her emails, like her Facebook page, and stay on top of what she’s doing.
Thanks, Danielle, for throwing a shoutout my way.
What’s Your Favorite Blog?
Easy. I learned what a blog was back in high school thanks to Hyperbole and a Half. Allie hasn’t posted in several years now, but I remember almost daily checking her page for new content. Her posts helped me to develop my sense of humor, and even now, I go back and read my favorites. I’m always in tears by the end of them. She’s SO FUNNY. I wish I were half as insightful as she is, and her writing style is just so spot on it hurts.
10 Random Facts About Me
In high school, I worked at a llama and alpaca insurance agency. Yes, that’s a real thing.
Number one on my bucket list is to win a sweepstakes.
Number two on my bucket list is to win concert tickets by being caller number whatever to a radio station.
I have NEVER seen the ocean. I live in Nebraska. We are landlocked.
That doesn’t mean I’ve never been anywhere, though. I took a summer to study abroad at Oxford. Econ, ftw.
I hate The Titanic. Don’t talk about it to me ever. I hate that stupid song, I hate the story, I hate everything about it. (But not you as people/actors, Kate and Leo. Kisses).
Almost Famous is the funniest movie in the entire world.
My dream job is to be a ballerina, but I think I missed that boat.
I faint pretty much any time I’m in the same room as a needle. I faint a lot, actually.
If you have a cool dog, we will be friends.
Questions I Received from Danielle
What is the most extreme thing you have ever done?
I don’t really do a lot of extreme things because I have a hard policy that states that I should do what it takes to stay alive (except in the event of the apocalypse, in which case I volunteer to go first). I suppose it would have to be the time I got in a car with my boyfriend after only knowing him for like a minute and went on a surprise weekend trip where I had no idea where we were going. We went to check out some caves near St. Louis. That sounds really weird if you’re not me, but I was jazzed.
What is that one post made by you that you like the most, and why?
I like my one about ice cream in Omaha (check it out here), mostly because it was really fun to go eat a lot of ice cream.
If you could ask one person one question, what would it be and who would you ask?
I would probably go ask L. Ron Hubbard, “What the hell?”
Who inspires you to be a better person?
Currently, the entire Trump Administration is making me feel like I have to do double-time to make up for all their antics. Highly motivating.
How did your blogging experience get started?
I decided that I needed to have one activity that I was doing for me and not because it was a side-hustle or resume-builder. So I bought a domain name and started a blog.
What is your favorite quote?
"You sort of start thinking anything’s possible if you’ve got enough nerve." -J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
What is one life lesson you will never forget?
Don’t apologize for things that don’t require an apology or are not your fault.
Who/what blog would you love to write a guest post for?
Ah man, this is hard. I’d be happy to blog for anyone who is in need of some dry humor-infused content about quality clothes on a budget, being 25, or how hard it is to be healthy.
What advice would you give to a new blogger?
If you’re in this for the likes and follows, it’s not going to be as fun. Be genuine and find a style and topic that you can’t not write about. (Yes. I used a double-negative. It’s my blog, and I do what I want.)
